Kitchen Aid KSSC42QTS00 Water dispenser stops when ice door closes

Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KSSC42QTS00
Main Symptom: Water dispenser stops when ice door closes
What happens & when: On my Kitchen Aid fridge if you dispense ice and then fill the glass with water the water turns on and then stops when the ice door closes. After it closes you can press the ice button again and it restarts. This started after replacing the door flap/ motor assy after the door was not closing properly. Kitchen Aid parts from APP

Was the dispenser motor stalling out half way between open and closed or was it closing enough to leave a small gap in the door chute? This can help identify if it was a motor issue or if there may be something occurring with the Niagara control which is responsible for the dispenser operation.

William thanks for reaching out. Just now I checked operation. Ice door was closed. Water dispenser worked correctly for just water. When the ice button was pressed it dispensed ice. Moving to the water dispenser the water starts and runs ok until the ice door closes and then the water stops. Looking at the ice flap it is stuck about half way open. Cycling power does not change anything. In the recent past the door has closed properly since there was no melting. Additionally the touch pad for water has been very touchy with you needing to find just the right place and trigger multiple times. Steve

The water pad can be tested for continuity when it is disconnected from the dispenser control. If it has continuity every time it is pressed, the pad is good. If this is the case, it is very likely the Niagara control has a failure where it is dropping voltage during the ice door motor operation. Thanks, will check it. On a post down the page “Ice dispenser door motor causing dimming/water shut off” they describe a procedure for checking for a voltage drop when the ice door opens would this apply here also? My display does not dim, but it is already very dark

OK confirmed water pad is operating correctly. Will order the control board.

The testing in the other post would not be necessary for this as that is related specifically to the display. Aside from sending a communication signal to the Niagara control when a paddle is pressed and what dispense selection is used, the display voltage would not be a factor.
