On your Kenmore 790.30529802, this is a gas wall oven, and the first thing I would suspect with the symptom you described is a weak bake igniter, especially if the oven reaches temperature normally and then fails to come back on after the burner cycles off.

The bake burner is supposed to shut off once the oven reaches temperature. As the oven cools a little, the igniter should glow again and the burner should relight. A weak igniter can work when cold, then become unreliable once it gets hot. That can make the problem seem intermittent, such as only happening about half the time.

Here’s what I’d check:

  1. Set the oven to Bake 350°F and watch it through a complete heating cycle.
  2. After it reaches temperature and the burner shuts off, wait for the temperature to drop enough that it calls for heat again.

    • Igniter glows but the gas burner does not relight: very strong indication the igniter is weak.
    • Igniter does not glow at all: then we need to check voltage from the control and wiring before replacing parts.
