Kenmore top load washer

then the switch is probably bad. There is a way to bypass it, if you feel comfortable with electricity I can walk you through it

What is the actual switch called?I will see how much it is and just buy a new one.Doesn’t seem like it’s that expensive, but I’ll check.Do I have to take the whole side off to install it ?

You have to raise the control panel by snapping off the two covers on the ends of the control panel, the there is 1 screw on each end remove that. pull the control panel forward and up it is hinged so you can tilt it back to access the plug for the lid safety switch ( Whirlpool WP3949238 Washer Lid Switch Assembly | Genuine OEM Part ) there are 2 gold colored clips that hold the cabinet to the back panel.

Step 4: Remove the Cabinet Retaining Clips

Using a flat-blade screwdriver, pry up the two large brass-colored spring clips that secure the cabinet to the rear panel.

  • Insert the screwdriver into the front of each clip.

  • Push the handle toward the back of the washer while lifting.

  • The clips will pop free.

Step 5: Remove the Cabinet

Open the lid and grasp the cabinet opening with one hand while supporting the cabinet with the other.

Tilt the entire cabinet toward you about 30–45 degrees to disengage it from the base, then lift it straight up and away from the washer.

Reinstalling the Cabinet

  • Hook the front lip of the cabinet under the front base rail.

  • Lower the cabinet so the side tabs align with the base.

  • Make sure the rear cabinet grooves fit over the locating tabs on the back panel.

  • Reinstall both retaining clips.

  • Reconnect the lid switch harness.

  • Rotate the console back down and secure it with the screws or clips.

  • Restore power and water, then test the washer.

Yes , I just went through all of that , with the clips when I installed the pump , but I forgot that I had to tip over the washer to install the pump so i’m familiar with what you’re saying. live and learn for me lol. Thank you so much for all your help.I might have some more questions for you. When I get the motor . But\nLet me ask you. It’s just one of those quick release plugs that I repug the motor into when I get it correct ?

Just looked at the link, it’s basically plug and play , besides all of the headache going into the cabinet , otherwise
