Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.23012101
Main Symptom: banging rhythmically on spin with no load (balanced)
What happens & when: when the drum spins on empty or regular spin cycle, there’s a loud rhythmic bang sound. I’ve checked the springs and replaced the snubber pads as recommended by AI with no effect. I’m thinking it’s not likely bearings and am tending towards the clutch/brake or perhaps the transmission. I’m ready to take the rest apart to see what I can find. What should I be looking for and what tests might I do to narrow this down?

Check the clutch and brake drive. Also, make sure that there is nothing caught between the tubs and that the drive block is not damaged.

Clutch and brake was where I was heading next, thanks! I had the tubs out to replace the snubbers and didn’t find anything caught between them. The drive block seemed fine.

Thank you

I’m stumped… replaced the basket drive assembly even though I didn’t see any issues with the existing one. the clutch seemed fine as well with no excessive ware or signs of damage. The transmission seemed to spin freely as well. Oh, replaced the drive coupler while I was there too.

Put it all back together and it still bangs on the spin cycle.

I discovered that it’s banging but in fact, now it’s not spinning. the new basket drive was hard to install, I had to compress the spring to get it to go in.
