Brand: Kenmore Oasis Model Number: 110.77072600 Main Symptom: Dryer runs too long What happens & when:
My dryer runs forever, even after the clothes are completely dry. The timer starts at 40 minutes on the automatic “Normal” cycle, and I let it run well over an hour. But the timer has only gone down to about 17 minutes and doesn’t appear to progress from there even after letting it run for another 15-20 minutes. It never enters the cool down cycle, so the clothes are blazing hot when I open the door and remove them.
I checked and cleaned the vent and confirmed no lint blockage.
I removed the two metal moisture sensor strips and cleaned them thoroughly with alcohol. The strips pass the diagnostic test. (Enter diagnostic mode, open door, bridge the two strips with a damp cloth and listen for beep.)
The thermistor also passes the diagnostic test. (Start a timed cycle and verify that F22 or F23 is not displayed after 1 minute.)
Clivedaw, thanks for your post. If you set the dryer to a timed cycle instead of an auto cycle, does the time continue to count down normally? That can help determine if the issue is with the control.
Great idea. I should have thought of doing this. I put a damp towel in and set a timed cycle for 25 minutes. It counted down perfectly and stopped. Towel had partially dried but was still damp. Then I set up an automatic Normal cycle for 40 minutes with Normal dryness level. After 15 minutes of elapsed time, things were looking OK. The timer had come down to 6. At exactly 21 minutes, the timer went to 0 and the dryer stopped. Towel was 99% dry.
Hmmm. So that all looks perfectly normal to me. My problem has either gone away, or is not being duplicated by this test. I know I’ve had trouble on at least the last half dozen full loads. I guess I’ll wait for the next full load and see what happens.
It sounds like there is likely an issue within the main control itself. Before starting the timed dry test, was the dryer power cord unplugged and then plugged back in?
