Kenmore microwave 721.7915 works fine except door won't open

Main Symptom: Door won’t open
What happens & when: Door button pushes in and pops back out but doesn’t release/open the door

Error Code (if any): none
Parts or tests already tried: microwave door release lever appears intact but doesnt stay in place; no obvious broken pieces inside

One thing I do not see is the 2 springs ( LG 4B72023B Microwave Spring | Genuine OEM Part ) that go between the button and the release lever ( LG 4510W3L003A Microwave Door Release Lever | Genuine OEM Part )

I do not see them either, but tension on the button seems ok so i didn’t take them out. It looks like those springs go on the black cylinders so they do not touch the white lever?

Yeah but they may help keep everything in place

when the button is released, the cylders pop back in

I meant cylinders. They do not seem to touch the lever unless the button is pushed in. Something broke somewhere because it was working, then sticking now not working at all. I did not see any loose parts inside when I opened it.

Yes I saw that so it seems there are no other parts there? It doesn’t show where the other side of the lever goes. I also found this diagram, but it doesn’t seem the same as mine.

i cant figure out where the other side of the white lever should attach. if there was a part #4004 from that diagram, i assume the other side would go there. I just can’t see any broken plastic bits inside. Puzzling! Not sure what to order.

Aha! I moved it around and found the broken piece.

It looks like it should be where the tip of the pen is. This is part of the black plastic frame that has the menu buttons and door button.
