Dishwasher Control panel buttons will not light and dishwasher will not start.
What would you replace the thermal control swith or door switch?

Next the “thermal control switch” (thermal fuse) as they are a known problem area. If blown be sure to replace the wiring harness which should come with the fuse.
Then the door switches.
On the Dishwasher Control panel the control lock is lit.

What do you think the problem is. The dishwasher is 12 years old and I’m not sure if it an “elite”.

The control board for this dishwasher is no longer available. Looks like it’s time for a new dishwasher.
