My husband overloaded the dryer and now it won’t run. When you press the on button, it makes about 2 revolutions and then stops. You can also smell the heating element when doing this. The drum gives resistance when turned manually. How do we diagnose the problem so we can replace the broken part?
The problem is the the husband on this one. Actually, it needs a motor. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
Are you 100% sure? Thanks for your help!!!
the only other thing to check is to see if something did not fall into the blower wheel. take the back off the dryer, and if you are behind it on the left hand side is where the filter goes in. there are four 5/16s screws holding it in place. take those off, and also pull the lint filter out, and remove the 2 phillip head screws, and then slide the cover to the right, and it will expose the blower wheel. check it out, and let me know. tom applianceeducator.com - parts
Okay, we checked the blower wheel and everything seems to be fine. Nothing stuck. Thanks for your help. Do you think we should just buy a new motor or check something else?
It has got top the motor then. Tom
what about the belt? Or, is that what we just checked? I would expect the belt to be rubber - correct?
It still sounds like the motor to me. If the belt looks worn replace it too. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
where is the rubber belt located so we can check it?
It is wraped around the drum. Look how it goes on, before you take it off. Rib side down. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
I guess Scott already looked at it and said it looks fine. He didn’t remove it though. I will go ahead and purchase the motor. Thanks so much for your help!!!
My husband said the belt looked fine, even though he didn’t remove it. The people on this web site told me the replcmnt motor was
Part Number: AP3094245
made by WHIRLPOOL
I’m not 100% sure about that, so I clicked on your website and submited an inquiry as to what they suggest. I want to make sure b/c it’s a kenmore dryer.
thanks so much again for your help!!!
not a problem. Tom
Where can I find instructions for replacing the motor?
Thanks
I am looking for instructions now on how to replace the motor. Thanks
You just got to take the front off, and the drum out and go for it. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
