Dryer was working fine, but stopped producing heat. Checked all the breakers and cleaned lint from exhaust port, still no heat. I am aware that one of the possible causes is the heating element, are there any other common causes for this if I want to try to attempt the repair on my own?

You’re most likely correct in your diagnosis, you probably have an open (broken) heater element.
Once you remove the lower access panel, check for any loose wires or connections and remove the element assembly from the burner cone and visually inspect the element for damage.
Do you have a multimeter so you can check the thermostats for proper circuitry ?
If you do, all the thermostat and thermo limiter on the burner cone should be a closed circuit at room temperature.
