Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.56932600
Main Symptom: Water not dispensing, ice maker working
What happens & when: Hey there. I’m trying to troubleshoot the water dispenser on my Kenmore fridge that recently stopped working. I’m at a point troubleshooting where it might be the water inlet valve needing replacement. When I press the water dispenser, I hear a buzzing sound and the flow of water somewhere underneath the fridge. There is no leaking though. The ice maker also works fine. I’ve tried defrosting the water line behind the drawers in the fridge with a blow dryer. I’ve tried unhooking the water line at the freezer hinge to see if water flows when dispensing (it does not). Is there anything else I should try to help determine if the water inlet valve is the culprit? Thank you for your help.
As the ice maker is working, it eliminates the possibility that the issue is anywhere before the dual water valve. Since there is not a frozen line, and water did not come through the tubing at the hinge, it would indicate the dual water valve is the cause of failure through the process of elimination. Thanks William! That was my hunch. I appreciate your troubleshooting process explained. Besides turning off the power and testing the water inlet valve with a multimeter, I wasn’t sure if there was anything else I should have checked. Thanks again!
Hi,
For how long?
For a defrosting test the refrigerator should be defrosted 12-24 hours with the doors open so all lines get a change to thaw out.
Failing that, yup try the fill valve William talked about.

William Ref: 106.51133210 Similar problem. Replaced the primary water valve. No water from the dispenser. No water from the fridge to the freezer door (checking for frozen tube) Disconnected the tube from the Filter Return tube to the Splitter. No water. The filter is new. How do I check if the Filter housing is functioning. Or do you have any other ideas. Did not want to just start replacing things. Sorry… and yes good water pressure from wall through the first Water Valve. Michael
If water did not pass through the filter section when the water dispenser was pressed, and the new filter is inserted fully, the filter housing would be the likely cause of issue. WPW10394055 Refrigerator Water Filter Housing Assembly | Genuine Whirlpool OEM In Stock
