On this Kenmore Coldspot, since you’ve already installed a new filter and there’s still no water getting through the filter to the ice maker, I’d troubleshoot the water path before replacing the ice maker. A new filter can still fail to pass water if it isn’t seated correctly or if the filter housing/head isn’t opening its internal valves. Kenmore’s guidance also specifically lists an incorrectly installed/clogged filter, supply restriction, and water-line problems as causes of no flow.
Quickest test — remove the filter
Remove the new filter and see whether this model will bypass the filter automatically.
Then cycle the ice maker or operate the water dispenser, if equipped.
- Water flows with filter removed: the problem is almost certainly the new filter or filter housing/head.
- Still no water: work backward toward the inlet valve and house supply.
If the old filter is available, reinstall it temporarily. If water flows with the old filter but not the new one, I would suspect the replacement filter first.
Check the filter installation
Remove the filter and inspect the end carefully. Reinstall it firmly and make sure it goes completely into its locked position. The filter has to push against valves inside the filter housing. If the housing isn’t being opened, you’ll get little or no water even though the filter itself is new.
This is a fairly common failure pattern: if water reaches the filter section but won’t pass through a correctly installed new filter, the filter housing/head becomes the prime suspect.
Best isolation test
If you’re comfortable disconnecting the tubing:
- Unplug the refrigerator.
- Shut off the house water.
- Locate the water line feeding the filter housing.
- Disconnect the line going into the filter housing and place it into a container.
- Restore the water/power as required and activate the water circuit.
You want to determine exactly where the water stops:
House supply → inlet valve → filter housing → ice-maker valve/circuit → ice-maker fill tube
If you have strong water entering the filter housing but nothing coming out, replace the filter housing/head, assuming the new filter is correct and fully seated.
If there’s no water entering the filter housing, don’t replace the housing yet. Check the refrigerator’s water inlet valve and the supply tubing feeding it. The inlet valve is responsible for supplying water into the refrigerator’s dispenser/ice-maker system.
Also check the ice-maker fill tube
If you establish that water is making it through the filter, inspect the fill tube where water enters the ice maker. A frozen fill tube can completely block ice-maker water even though the filter and valve are working.
My first test would be the filter-bypass test. Tell me whether you get water with the filter removed, and I can narrow this down to the filter/housing versus the inlet valve without having you start replacing parts.
