Kenmore 80 series won't spin

My kenmore washer goes through the wash cycle normal but when it gets to the spin cycle, it won’t spin. It drains the water but doesn’t start spinning. If I open and close the lid, then it will spin and finish the cycle. Am I looking at a problem with the neutral drain assembly?

Yes, this washer has a neutral drain transmission which should pause for a few seconds during the drain to engage the spin. The correction is to replace the timer.
