Kenmore 79648842800, burning rubber smell and smoke during spin cycle

Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 79648842800
Main Symptom: burning rubber smell and smoke during spin cycle
What happens & when: I have a Kenmore 79648842800 front load washer. Id noticed it had been making more noise and seemed to have more vibration during the spin cycle. And then yesterday when it went into the spin cycle I started smelling burning rubber and so I stopped the washer and when I opened it there was a small amount of smoke. I’m assuming this was caused by the tub making contact with the rubber seal/gasket and I did note the tub seemed to move more freely than i previously remember whenever removing the load. So Im figuring I definitely need to replace the shock absorbers and that outer seal/gasket. But before waiting for parts and starting in on the repair I figured Itd probably be a good idea to ask if there’s anything else I should check or am likely to need to replace as well. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

I’d be worried about the bearings, rear tub seal, and the rear support spider as well.

The page below has those parts.

And the page for the spider has a video on getting to it.

Thanks i really appreciate it. Is there anything i can do to try to confirm for each of them that theres an issue/failure needing replacement before just buying all of em?

If you follow that video and get access to them you should be able to see if the spider is damaged and if the bearings are worn out. It also shows accessing and removing the shocks.

Ok thanks, do you think the springs might need replacement as well?

They’re usually pretty tough but it is worth looking to see if they’ve stretched while you’re there.

Ok perfect thanks so much for your help. Last question i promise  could you possibly list the part numbers you suggest replacing for this issue please. I just want to be sure I’m getting the correct ones

That would be K115, K121, K122, and K125 on this page.
