Brand: Jenn Air Model Number: SVD48600P Main Symptom: New oven hinges do not fully close the oven door What happens & when: I replaced my oven hinges with new parts from AppliancePartsPros. Correct replacement parts confirmed ready. The oven door now does not fully close (about 1/4” gap at the top) and the door when opened almost falls open. It seems like possibly the springs are weak? When the oven door does close, it just barely shuts off the oven light switch, but doesnt go far enough to close the convection switch. I can push the oven door shut, but it immediately opens back up to the same 1/4”ish gap. I cannot see anything adjustable on the hinge or any other way to install/adjust the hinge. Any help would be appreciated.

This is the correct hinge for your unit and this sounds like it would be a installation issue. The overall length of this hing will be 19.52” in length according to the manufuacturer.
I confirmed installation is correct again last evening. There is only one way to put the hinges in the door. I thought maybe there was some wiggle room in the two bolt holes, but there isn’t. After observing the door closing numerous times, I did notice that the springs are fully compressed before the door reaches the full closure point. This corresponds to the 1/4” gap I am observing. Pushing the door shut causes the spring to hit the side of the hinge assembly.
Other than the springs being an incorrect tension or length, I do not know what could possibly be wrong here. (Weak springs would explain why the door almost flops open when bumped and why it doesn’t fully pull closed.) There is no adjustment on the springs.
I can confirm that the overall length of the hinges I received are the 19.52”. (Measurement is just over the 19.5” mark by tape measure.) The hinges are properly installed in the door as well as the over frame. I do not see any mis-alignment.
The hinges received had paperwork showing that the correct model was ordered, however the hinge itself does not have any identifying marks on it except for a green sticker that has the numbers: 4824 on it.
The hinge is very “weak” when the door is opened and it (the door) almost falls freely to the fully open position. (Old hinges definitely had more resistance when opening.) When closing, the door “pulls in” to the position that leaves it about a 1/4-3/8” open. (At this point, it is not enough to shut the oven light off.) You can nudge the door shut, but you can feel it push back open to that point. Listening closely, I can hear the springs move in the door frame when the door is pushed fully shut. This is what is leading me to believe that the springs are either too long or the wrong tension.
I taped down both the convection fan and light bulb push buttons to see if they had any impact on the door position, and they didn’t. With both taped, the door still stopped in the same spot.
At this point I am inclined to send these back, but fear that any replacements sent if from the same lot may have the same issue. I believe I could tighten the spring, but that would require me to modify the high assembly and Appliance Pro’s likley would not warranty the hinges then.
Any help from Appliance Pro’s would be great as currently we have an oven that is pretty much unusable unless we hold the door shut. This is becoming a disappointing experience.
