Parts or tests already tried: Counterwights seem secure, tub spins freely, shock absorbers appear okay, drainage filter clear (did not disassemble pump)

Fixed. It was a gum stimulator resting on the basin outside of the basket retrieved through the drain hole.

Thank you for sharing how you were able to resolve this. Items finding their way between the spin basket and the outer tub can certainly cause noises, and out of balance situations.
