Hi - I have a 2 year old Whirpool side by side that is having issues with the flap that activates to dispense ice… The piece blocking the chute that is moved when depressing the flap has somehow come loose, including a small plastic arm with a wheel on it. Because of this the flap sits open and cold air pours out of the chute. I’ve been scouring the internet for a service manual to look at removing this dispenser assembly and attempting to repair, but I’ve been out of luck. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Pull a chair up to the fridg, remove the fountan bottom try and remove any screws.Pry off the outer trim with a putty knife, then remove the pc board screws and tilt up and duck tape it there.
If the flapper is damaged, order a new one. If ok, but just off the mounts, just re-attach it. If one of the screw plastic tabs are broken, you will need to drill a hole in the housing and add a small screw to retain the flapper.
If you find it impossable when re-assemling, you will need to add an extension to the 5/16 water line to get it back in,
I use a 1/4- 5/16 plastic compression fitting adapter and a 1/4 inch water line to facilitate pushing in the housing hole.
