What happens & when: I replaced the control board on my dryer and it is acting in a bizarre fashion wrt display lights. Attached photo shows one symptom. I have a video that shows another, but don’t know how to attach that to this message.

For Frigidaire FGQ1442ES3, the lights shown in your photo are not normal for the Normal cycle. Several Timed Dry LEDs are illuminated simultaneously even though the selector is at Normal. Since this started immediately after replacing the control board, I would concentrate on the new board, its connections, and the cycle-selector input before looking anywhere else. The correct control board listed for FGQ1442ES3 is 134484212.

First thing I would do

Unplug the dryer. Remove the console and double-check every connector on the replacement board. Look specifically for:

  • A connector that isn’t completely seated.
  • A plug installed one position off.
  • Bent or pushed-back terminals inside a connector.
  • Any connector accidentally swapped with another.
  • Damage to the selector/control harness.

Then disconnect power for about 5 minutes, reconnect everything and test again.

Run the built-in diagnostic

This generation has a useful control diagnostic specifically for checking the selector and LEDs.

  1. Put the cycle selector at the 12 o’clock position.
  2. Press and hold Select + Pause/Cancel together for 6 seconds.
  3. Immediately press and hold Start + Pause/Cancel together for about 4 seconds.
  4. The buzzer should sound 3 times and all LEDs should rapidly flash.

Once you’re in diagnostics, rotate the cycle selector one click at a time.

Pay close attention to whether the control recognizes every individual selector position correctly. The diagnostic procedure specifically uses rotation of the program knob to command the individual tests, so bizarre or overlapping indications while moving the selector are useful evidence of an incorrect selector signal reaching the board.

To exit diagnostics, hold Select + Pause/Cancel for 6 seconds, or unplug the dryer.

What I suspect

Because the dryer apparently wasn’t displaying this behavior until the board was replaced, my order of suspicion would be:

1. Incorrect/defective replacement control board
2. Connector not fully seated or terminal pushed out during installation
3. Cycle selector/encoder problem
4. Wiring between the selector and control

I would not replace another part yet.
