Unless you need a single supply hose to run from the water supply valve to the y-connection mixer hose, it should be all that is needed to connect the two valves. If an individual supply hose to run from the valve to the mixer hose is needed, here are links to a single stainless braided hose and a vinyl hose.

As long as only tap cold is selected as the temperature, the washer should be able to fill with water without a problem. The cap being left on should not be an issue in this case. However, if there are random codes that continue to show up, there may be something else going on.
