I have a Kenmore ice maker, model 106.89583703 that has stopped running. It has power to the unit but no control lights come on and motor isn't running. when I unplug and plug back in, motor will run for about 5 seconds then shuts down again

Yes, the pump sits next to the compressor at the back of the unit.

Try unplugging the power cord that runs from the ice machine into the drain pump. Connect the power cord to an outlet or an extension cord if needed. Does the ice machine operate at that point?

Yes. When I plugged that cord in, the lights came on and control buttons lit. I have the water turned off and machine is completely empty. No pumps or motors were running.

To verify good operation, does the ice machine operate properly when the water supply is turned on and the controls are set to run? If it does operate properly, the issue would likely be with the external drain pump in the compressor section having a failed outlet connection point for the ice machine to plug into.

ok, I turned on water supply and plugged in the unit. The control panel worked, then the water reservoir filled and began to circulate. After a couple of minutes, the water drained to the ice bin.

Is this the issue you suspected? What parts would be needed to repair?
