Brand:Viking Model Number:VGSUT6Y Main Symptom: replacement of spark module What happens & when:I purchased a spark module from you this past year but have not been able to access the controller located under the SS top .
Removed all visible screws on top and bottom but still firmly secured . There must be some way it opens?

If this is a Viking VGSU-series sealed burner cooktop, the stainless top is not held on only by perimeter screws. It’s also secured by the burner retaining rings (the brass rings in the center of each burner). Until those are removed, the top will feel firmly locked in place.
Here’s the typical procedure:
Disconnect power to the cooktop (and shut off the gas if you’ll be lifting the top).
Remove the burner caps.
Unscrew the brass retaining ring in the center of each burner. These rings often seize from heat and corrosion, so they can be quite difficult to remove. A special spanner tool is available, although many people carefully use a large flat-blade screwdriver in the notches if the rings aren’t stuck.
Lift off the burner assemblies as needed and disconnect the igniter wires if necessary.
The stainless top should then lift up, giving access to the single spark module underneath.
If you’ve already removed every visible screw and the top still won’t budge, the burner retaining rings are almost certainly what’s holding it.
