How do I test high limit cut off and the dryer cycle thermostat on a Kenmore 110. 66512694 with a multi meter

Use a thermometer instead of a meter. As the cycling thermostat cycles on and off, the temperature should rise to around 160 degrees, then drop back 25-39 degrees, then go back up. If it runs in those ranges, the thermostat is good. If you want to use a meter, set it for voltage, as the thermostat closes, you will lose your voltage reading, when it opens up, voltage will show up on your meter, you just won’t know what the temperature is.

I am not getting any heat at all, so I don’t think I would get temputure readings, besides room temp.

Then the problem is probably not with the cycling thermostat. Check the heating element first, then the high limit on the side of the heater box for continuity.

Thank you David. No visual breaks in heating element and continuity test was good. So in your opinion I should just order high limit switch? Or Should I check the high limit switch for continuity before ordering?

I would check it first. If it is open, something has caused it to open. High temps open it up. It may be a shorted or sagging element, or poor venting. Just check some of these, or you will be replacing it again. I would check the element with a meter, just looking at it can fool you. Ohm it out. Want to know the ohms reading? Use ohms law…240 volts times 240 volts, (57,600) then divide the wattage of the element (on the heater housing), into 57,600, that will give you the ohms number.

Thank you again. I will try testing element. Vent looks clean. It’s in a condo that has them cleaned every year. Will check on Wednesday
