Model Number:
MVEL2137F (over‑the‑range microwave / hood combo)
Main Symptom:
Need instructions to install front decor trim panel (MCR68430001) on the underside front of the unit.
What happens & when:
The original front decor / trim panel on the underside front of the microwave hood was cracked. I ordered the exact replacement part (MCR68430001 Microwave Front Decor Panel | Genuine LG OEM, AP7195939) from AppliancePartsPros. I cannot find any installation instructions in the owner’s manual, installation manual, or online, and I’m not sure of the correct steps to attach this new panel (screws vs clips, whether the slide‑out hood/extenda vent needs to be removed first, etc.).
Error Code (if any):
n/a
Parts or tests already tried:
I verified this is the correct OEM part for my model using the Appliance Compatibility Tool on the product page and LG’s parts lists. I have inspected the underside/front of the microwave and can see mounting points, but before I start removing screws or the slide‑out hood assembly I want to confirm the proper procedure so I do not damage the new trim or the vent mechanism.
This is a new one on me as well. I do see places for screws to go on the back side. Most of the time, it is just a matter of digging in and figuring it out. Maybe some of the other techs can find some information to share.
Yeah, I saw the scew mounts on it, but the screws are not readily accessible. So I’m guessing I have to remove the entire bottom plate assembly. I’m hoping it’s as simple as unscrewing the 10 screws and lowering it.
In the Q&A section on the part page, a best guess for the instructions are:
To service the front decor panel MCR68430001 it appears that the base plate assembly needs to be removed. There should be 8 screws, 4 on each side, that need to come out so that the assembly can be lowered, the wiring harness disconnected, and the assembly removed.
The Question and Answer section was there when I ordered the part, but vanished there when I checked back. It’s suddenly visible again. Anyway, since the whole bottom assembly needs to be removed (I think it’s actually 10 screws, not 8, but whatever), it will be a 2-person job to do it safely without dropping it
I’ll try to remember to report back when I complete the job. Hopefully I’ll take pics too
Hi. I am not a professional installer. I have the same Microwave LG MVEL2137F and the extend a vent trim piece is cracked. I have received the replacement part MCR68430001. I can across this thread from a Google Search. Can you tell me what installation steps were needed to replace this trim piece. Do I really need to remove the entire microwave to replace this trim piece? I hope not.
