On GE PSS26LSRCSS, the auger shaft is held at the rear by an E-clip and washer, and at the front by a threaded bearing retainer.
- Turn the icemaker off, remove the bin, and empty it.
- Remove the Phillips screws from the front cover; lift the cover off.
- Remove the clear shield and disconnect the dispenser actuator arm/spring.
- Use a flat screwdriver to release the retaining tabs and lift the auger/crusher housing out of the bin.
- At the rear end of the shaft, pry off the E-clip carefully, then remove the washer.
- Lift the rear/end housing off the shaft. The end mount can now be removed and replaced.
- If the shaft must come completely apart, hold the auger and loosen the front bearing retainer by turning it clockwise—it uses a left-hand thread. Keep every crusher blade and spacer laid out in exact order.
Reassembly is the reverse: end housing → washer → E-clip. Make sure the clip is fully seated in the shaft groove before reinstalling the assembly. GE identifies the commonly used auger as WR17X11705, but verify the replacement end-mount part against the model diagram before ordering.
