GE Washer GTW685BPL0DG Won’t Drain & Spin on Delicate

Brand: GE
Model Number: GTW685BPL0DG
Main Symptom: Won’t finish cycle (Drain and Spin) on most settings.
What happens & when: When the washer is on the color and towel settings the washer will complete all the cycles like it should. When the washer is on delicates it gets all the way through the wash cycle and then just sits and makes a humming noise. It wonts drain the water and start the spin cycle. There are no grinding noises or anything. When you try the drain and spin setting sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t .

Error Code (if any): None
Parts or tests already tried: Tried unplugging and cleaning all of the electrical connectors under the control board and reinstalling them and nothing changed.

Gv3rd, as the washer is able to work properly in two cycles but not in others, the failure would most likely be with the main control. WH22X35757 Washer Main User Interface Control Board | Genuine Ge OEM In Stock

I replaced the board and when I power it on all the lights come on and start flashing. If I hit the start button all the lights go out and it won’t do anything. I’ve tried entering the consumer and tech diagnostic modes and nothing happens. I have tried turning the knob before pushing start also. That didn’t do anything. What now?

The control board personality code would need to be set. Did the control come with a card in the box? If you unplug the power cord for 5 minutes then plug it back in, will the washer enter service mode by holding down the start button, rotating the cycle knob clockwise 7 clicks (180 degrees), and then releasing the start button? If it will allow this to happen, the cycle knob can be rotated to the change personality mode (see attached image). Once that is selected, press start until the personality 7 illuminates or the status LEDs match the pattern for your model (see attached image).

There was nothing in the box other than the new board. I tried this already, but will try it again when I get home.

I followed the instruction you sent and after plugging it back in all the lights started flashing. I held the start button and turned the knob 7 clicks (180 degrees) and the display went blank and the lights went off. This is the same thing that happened before.

It sounds like it did not save a personality and is resetting to the personality selection mode automatically. Unplug the power cord for 5 minutes then plug it back in. Once the LEDs start flashing, just press start to set it to personality 7. Once the personality is selected, press and hold the start button for 3 or so seconds. Does the washer allow this to happen and does it start working properly after this?

After having it unplugged for about 10 minutes, I plugged it back in. The leds came on and started flashing. I pushed the start button and everything went black. It won’t do anything.

Any update on what to do now? Nothing has worked and I have had to put the old part back in to at least use some of the wash settings.

As the control has not allowed any progress, I would have to say the control is faulty.

I have received 2 additional control boards which have all done the same thing. As soon as I turn the power back on the washer, the lights come on and start flashing. I have followed the instructions for installation and setting up the personality, but as soon as I push start all the lights go out and nothing else happens. I have also tried unplugging it, plugging it back in after 5 minutes and holding the start button down while turning the knob 7 times to enter the service mode. The same thing happened. The lights went out and the machine wouldn’t do anything else. Up until now I was able to use my old board and at least do loads on a couple of different cycles, but now it does the same thing on every cycle where it gets to the end where it is supposed to drain and spin and it just sits there. I need to know what to do next. I have three boards that have not fixed the problem, or even worked correctly, and now no washer to do clothes with.

The only thing I can think of is it might be possible that a short circuit is interfering with the control. However, this is grasping at straws. With the power cord unplugged, disconnect the wires at connection J513 and J701. Once they are disconnected, will the main control allow for the personality code to be set after plugging the power cord in? If not, unplug the power cord and disconnect the wire connection J602 after plugging the J513 and the J701 wires back in. Will it allow the control personality to be set then?

Tried both and neither worked.

I’ve gone through and checked resistance on everything I could. Below are the results.

I do not see any other low voltage component that might interfere with programming. If you have the back panel of the console removed, is there an LED flashing on the control when the power cord is plugged in? This picture shows where the LED should be.

Yes there was a light flashing on the board.

This identifies that there should be correct voltage reaching the control. If you set the field service mode, will it allow you to change the test modes? If it will, are you able to enter into the fault code display mode to see if any LED light patterns show? If it does, what pattern is showing and if you turn the cycle knob clockwise, does another pattern show up? This is to see if the control is seeing something that we are not.

I’m unable to enter the field service mode. I can’t enter the mode to set the personality, or any other modes. If I press start to set the personality it goes blank. If I hold start and turn the knob 7 clicks and let off the start button it goes blank. Once it goes blank it will not do anything else no matter what buttons I press or if I turn the knob.

Would it be possible to provide a video, or a link to the video, showing exactly what is occurring from plugging the power cord in to the display going blank?

Yes, I can send a video. I won’t be able to do it until I get home from work, so I guess it’ll be another day before I get any more information. Is there nothing else I can try?
