GE Profile won't drain completely?

Hello,

My 3 to 4yr. old GE Profile DW left a couple inches of water in the bottom for the first time ever. I ran a cycle on anti bacterial for a few seconds and then hit reset, and it would start to drain, did this a couple time until it drained completely.

Read some about a piston & nut assm. and flapper, but I’ll need some type of illustration to locate these parts?

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks

Coy

Coy,

There is no piston & nut assembly in your dishwasher. There is a check valve/flopper in the drain line (#328 on the diagram) which you have to check. Also make sure there is no any floating foreign objects inside the drain hose. You probably have to remove the dishwasher from the cabinet to do it.

Thanks Gene,

This is a very cool resource.

I did find some pistachio shells once the water drained. I’ll pull it out and check that line, and figure out what parts I’ll need from there.

Thanks again for the help

Hello,

I received some great advice on repairing my dishwasher from Gene - now that I have dug into it, I see there is not one but two flappers one near the pump and one at the drain hose. But he only poited out the one near the pump ? What am I looking for in a defective flapper?

Thanks for any help

Coy

Yes, you right. There is another flapper check valve (#464 on the diagram) which you have to check as well. Defective flapper will definitely affect proper drainage.

Gene.

Thanks,

I did check the one near the drain hose(464), and it had a little build-up, but all-in-all the flapper looked good – problem is, I don’t know want to look for in a bad flapper. will it be torn or stuck shut or?

Thanks

Coy

Coy,

It’s really hard to say, especially if I can not see them. Both of the flappers are absolutely inexpensive and I will just replace them.

Gene.

Yeah, I get that, it’s like a $2 part, but at the time my local appliance place didn’t have one, and being close to the holidays i just wanted to get it back together and hopefully working - so far so good.

Thanks for the help

You are welcome. Keep us posted.

Happy New year!
