Brand:GE Model Number:PDT775SYNBFS Main Symptom:Trips the breaker apx 3-4 minutes into the cycle. What happens & when: The dishwasher trips the breaker as soon as the water heting element kicks on.

Parts or tests already tried: I put the dishwasher in diagnois mode and all funtions work fine except for funtion number 4, which a you tube video told me that tests the heating cycle for the water. When testing funtion 4 the breaker will trip seconds after starting the test. I have tested the circuit breker and it is working properly.

I believe the heating element is shorted out. I was told by one of your sales reps that the heating element for this model in built in to the circulation pump. Can you please confirm this and give you opinion on the diagnosis. If you agree with my diagnosis please include any repair/replace instructions you may have.
Have you checked the heating element itself? A faulty heating element could be the reason your dishwasher is tripping the breaker.
I’d recommend inspecting the element both inside the dishwasher and underneath the unit at the terminal block connections. Look for any signs of damage, burns, cracks, or loose wiring. If you have a multimeter, you can also test the element for continuity to see if it has failed.
My dishwasher does not have the traditional heating element in the bottom. After searching most of the day one of your sales reps told me that the heating element is built in to the circulation pump. If this is true can you give me instructions on how to test this? I own a basic multi meter but I am not trained on it. I will need basic instructions on using the meter to test. Also I would like instruction on how to replace the pump.
I’ve attached a tech sheet that will show you how to put your dishwasher into diagnostic mode. Once you’re able to run the diagnostics, let me know what error codes come up, and we can go from there to narrow down the issue.
I ran through the diagnostic routine again and found no fault codes but it did flash 10 times when first put into diagnois mode. If I am interperating the chart correctly that would indicate a critical fault. fault 10 is Fus Board circulation pump fuse failure. I lso determined that when runing test 4 dry (water has been drained from washer) it dose not trip the breaker. If I run test 4 wet (water was filled into washer) it trips the breaker in 37 seconds. This tells me that when the pump is filled and the heting element is activated it shorts out the system and trips the gfi breaker. Do you agree?
I also looked at the wiring diagram and found two wires that run to the circulation pump that appear to be a built in heater. (the picture shows a coil with wires connected to both ends).
Is it logical for me to replace the cirulation pump/ heater unit to correct my problem?
Based on everything you’ve tested, I do agree with your diagnosis. The fact that the dishwasher completes Test 4 when it’s dry but consistently trips the GFCI about 37 seconds into Test 4 when it’s filled with water strongly suggests that the issue occurs when the circulation pump’s integrated heater is energized.
The 10 flashes you saw in diagnostic mode also point toward a circulation pump/heater fault, which lines up with your findings. Since the heater is built into the circulation pump assembly on your model, it’s not serviced separately.
At this point, replacing the circulation pump/heater assembly is the most logical next step. Before ordering the part, I would still recommend giving the wiring harness and connectors going to the pump a quick inspection for any signs of damage, corrosion, or moisture. If those look good, I would be confident that the circulation pump/heater assembly is the culprit.
