On the GE Monogram ZISP480DXBSS, WR49X10107 is the fresh food damper control assembly. It is mounted behind the air tower at the top rear of the fresh food compartment, inside the foam duct assembly.

Tools Needed

  • 1/4" nut driver
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver
  • Putty knife (optional)
  • Flashlight

Accessing the Damper Assembly (WR49X10107)

  1. Disconnect power to the refrigerator.
  2. Remove all food and the top refrigerator shelves to give yourself room to work.
  3. Remove the ceiling light shield
    • Release the retaining tabs and lower the light shield.
    • Remove the light bulbs if they interfere with access.
  4. Remove the air tower cover
    • Remove the screws securing the plastic air tower to the rear wall.
    • Carefully pull the air tower straight forward. There are foam seals behind it, so don’t force it.
  5. Remove the foam duct assembly (WR02X12861) if necessary
    • The damper is mounted behind this foam housing.
    • Carefully work the foam duct out without breaking it. The foam becomes brittle with age.
  6. Access the damper assembly
    • The WR49X10107 damper control assembly is now visible.
    • Disconnect the wire harness.
    • Remove the mounting screws.
    • Lift the damper assembly out.
  7. Install the new damper
    • Transfer any foam seals if they are not included.
    • Reconnect the wiring.
    • Reinstall the foam duct, air tower, light shield, shelves, and restore power.

Tips

  • Take photos of the foam duct and wiring before disassembly.
  • Inspect the foam duct for cracks or air leaks while it’s apart.
  • If the damper door is stuck open or closed, or the motor doesn’t respond during diagnostics, replacing WR49X10107 is the correct repair. A faulty fresh food thermistor (WR55X10025) can also cause similar temperature control issues, so it’s worth testing if the damper tests good.
