Hello, a drain pump that stays on all the time is going to be an issue with the main control board; the relay has probably stuck in the run position.
i found that the unit has a pressure switch that senses when there is melted ice water in the bin and then the pump is activated. that switch is sensitive and can be clogged after a cleaning cycle is run with ice maker cleaning solution which is what i just did before this problem occured. so now today i am going to remove this pressure switch and take it apart in an effort to clean it and if that does not work i will replace this switch first which is available online for $179 and see if that works. thank you for your suggestion. gino
here is how you locate the pressure switch on the free standing ice maker.Locating the Pressure SwitchThe pressure switch is the part labeled WR02X25989 in parts lists. It is typically a small, circular or square component with a small air hose (drain tube) and two electrical wires.
The pressure switch is located on the drain pump assembly. To access the switch, remove the lower front access panel of the ice maker. The pump assembly is a self-contained unit. The pressure switch is mounted directly onto it or nearby, sensing the water level in the internal reservoir through the small air tube.Diagrams and installation guides are available to help visualize the drain pump and pressure switch location. These visual resources should help locate the specific componentsYes, the pressure switch is attached to the drain pump assembly itself. It is mounted on the front of the pump unit and connects to the drain hose via a small air tube. The switch uses the air pressure in this tube to sense the water level in the drain reservoir and activate or deactivate the pump accordingly. If your pump is running continuously, the small sensing tube or the connection point is likely clogged with sediment, trapping the pressure and tricking the switch into thinking the reservoir is still full. Detailed diagrams of the machine compartment are available on websites like Sears PartsDirect or Repair Clinic. Search for your specific model number (UCC15NJBII) and navigate to the “Machine Compartment” or “Reservoir & Spray Pump” assembly sections. The diagrams show an exploded view of all the parts and their relative positions. i took several pictures of the pressure switch first to confirm wiring. then removed it from the unit and on my workbench took it apart. be very careful and take pictues as you take it apart becuase there are small springs and two very delicate diaphrams. the diaphrams were dirty from when i descalled the unit and it was that dirt that cause the pressure switch not work. i cleaned the diaphrams with a alcohol wipe on both sides and cleaned the plastic parts as well. be sure to take pictures before you take it apart as it must go back together exactly the same. after i reinstalled it and poured water into the ice bin it came on and drained the water and then went off and on and then came back on after a few seconds and kept doing that for about 30 minutes. i think it was becasue the diaphrams had to seat themselves as this is a very senstive device. after that it worked perfect and only comes on to drain the water from the bin. its fixed. other alternative is to buy a new switch with the part number given for about $160 to $180. I hope this helps whomever has the same problem. gino
