GE Dual Fuel Range Mod # C2S986SEL2SS When I tried to activate the wifi application it went to update software and the control screen went blank and never came back

What happens & when: Green lights flash on Both sides of back of screen circuit board, Power is 5 volts at power input. part# WB56X28189 is suspected problem.

If your GE Café C2S986SEL2SS went blank during a Wi-Fi/software update and never came back, the control may have locked up during the update process. This is usually a software freeze, not necessarily a failed control board.

Try these steps:

  1. Turn power off to the range at the breaker (don’t just turn the oven off).

  2. Leave it off for at least 5 minutes.

  3. Turn the breaker back on and wait several minutes for the control to boot up. Some GE Café models will display messages like “Checking for Updates” during startup.

A few questions:

  • Is the display completely black, or is there any text, Wi-Fi symbol, or backlight visible?

  • Do the cooktop burners still ignite?

  • After the screen went blank, did you try turning the breaker off and back on yet?

If the display remains completely dead after a breaker reset, we can determine whether it’s still a software issue or if the main control/display board may have failed

I turned the oven off at the circuit breaker for 4 hrs. Then on. Cook top burners ignite and work normally. Screen is blank. No lights at all.

At this point I think the board may be bad. Without being able to access the diagnostics we really cant determine anything else.

One question when you said 5 volts at power input where were you reading that?

There are actually 2 control units for that model ( WB56X28189 Glass & Touch Board Asm | Genuine Ge OEM In Stock ) is the UI control, ( WB27X29493 Range Control Board Assembly With Frame | Genuine Ge OEM In Stock ) is the power control module

At the red wire on both plugs. Ground on main ground.

Also the black wire on the smaller plug.

I suspect it is the main power board ( WB27X29493 Range Control Board Assembly With Frame | Genuine Ge OEM In Stock ) not the UI. I am attaching the wiring diagram and mini tech manual for that unit.
