then the main control board is not the first thing I’d suspect. On this model, there are several more common causes.

Most likely possibilities (in order)

  1. Evaporator frosted over (most common)
    • Remove the freezer’s rear inside panel.
    • Look at the evaporator coils.
    • If they’re packed in snow/ice, the refrigerator won’t get enough airflow even though the fan is spinning.
    • This points to a defrost problem:
      • Defrost heater
      • Defrost thermostat (bimetal)
      • Main control board (which controls defrost)
  2. Weak evaporator fan
    • A fan can run but not move enough air.
    • With the freezer door switch held closed, the fan should move a strong stream of air.
    • If it sounds slow or weak, replace the fan motor.
  3. Blocked air return
    • Cold air must circulate back from the refrigerator to the freezer.
    • Ice or debris blocking the return vent can cause exactly these symptoms.
  4. Thermistor issue
    • If the fresh food thermistor reports the wrong temperature, the control board may not cool correctly.
    • On Frigidaire units, thermistors are fairly common failures.
  5. Main control board

Answer these questions:

  1. Is the freezer still around 0°F, or is it warming too?
  2. What does the evaporator frost pattern look like?
  3. Is the compressor running continuously, or does it cycle off?
  4. Do you hear the condenser fan next to the compressor running?

Those answers will narrow it down quickly. On this Frigidaire model, the evaporator frost pattern is the single best diagnostic indicator before spending money on a control board.
