Frigidaire GRSS2352AF8 side by side fridge ice maker water line freezing

Main Symptom: No ice
What happens & when: Ice maker does not make ice sometimes. If I leave the fridge and freezer doors open for about 10 minutes it seems to start working again after about an hour. Guessing the water line freezes and if the compressor runs for a long time (after leaving the doors open for 10 minutes) it thaws out the frozen line and it starts working again. Freezer is set to highest setting of 4F. Thermocouple at ice maker water opening in top of freezer is reading a minimum of 7.5F

Error Code (if any):
Parts or tests already tried: Repair man found a documented fix from Frigidaire to tape around the water dispensing hole. Repair man also said water pressure was not enough so I added a delivery pump and now it dispenses within spec (1oz per second)

One possible thing that could be causing the fill line to freeze is if the water valve is leaking by allowing a small amount of water to seep into the line and freeze. You can check this by removing the ice make fill line at the valve and observing the valve for leakage

Typically the water lines run up the back of the fridge and the valves are located at the bottom

Possible bad fill tube heater!

Thank you for the pdfs! Is the fill tube heater supposed to be on all the time? Or is there a sensor or something that tells it when to cycle?

OK. I’m not sure what that heater is supposed to do because it looks like it just heats up the housing/cover and not the actual fill tube.

As a next step I’ll tape my thermocouple on that housing/cover and see what it reads before/during/after the fill tube runs water.

sounds like a good plan. The heater heats the tube by conduction and radiant heating of that area to keep the tube clear
