Frigidaire Glowing Coil

Morning everyone,

A simple question for all you knowledgeable folk. Short of sounding stupid, my knowledge of dryers is very limited. Should the electric coil glow? I had to replace the old coil, it had broke in four places and was arching across the back of the drum creating some sparks… About half of the coil was glowing. So anyhow, I just installed the new coil, made sure it is not ground out anywhere on the panel, and all of the little coils have space between, nothing touching.. The new coil glows, all the way across. Im assuming this is normal.. I have simply never paid attention. Any help is appreciated.

Chad

Chad,

It is normal. It has to glow in order to produce heat as long as it’s powered up.

Thanks! I hated to sound dumb, but just wanted to be sure. I have plenty of expierence switching out parts on my a/c and furnace, just no dryer knowledge.

Thanks again,
Chad
