Fridgidaire GRMC2273CF00 water dispenser leaks when opening door

Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: GRMC2273CF00
Main Symptom: water dispenser leaks when opening door
What happens & when:

Our Fridge leaks about 2 tablespoons of water when opening the door after dispensing water. As long as the door remains closed, it doesn’t leak. The leak is directly from the dispenser where the water is expected to come out.

I found through other forums and AI that the likely culprit is the water line 5304524353 Frigidaire Valve to Door Hinge Tubing. I purchased this part and I’m trying to replace it. I have removed the Frigidaire Refrigerator Cover OEM Part from the top of the fridge and have pulled the water tube up through the top of the left door.

The tube disappears into the top of the fridge and I’m assuming it runs through the fridge over to the water filter area in the back of the fridge on the right side.

I’ve also removed the top shelf of the fridge. There is an icemaker on the left upper corner of the fridge.

I’m at a loss as to what else to remove to get to the path of the 5304524353 Frigidaire Valve to Door Hinge Tubing so I can replace the old tube with the new one.

Hi, would you happen to have any pictures of what you’re working on? If you can post a few pictures here, it would give me a better idea of what you’re dealing with so I can help you further.

Here are some photos of the fridge.

Okay, so you pulled out the gray water line that runs through the door, and now you’re trying to push the new one in, correct?

If so, you’re going to need to remove the door and pull off the display board so you can access where the water line connects at the dispenser. Feed the new line through and make sure it clicks securely into place where the water comes out.

Once you have that end connected, you can feed the rest of the water line toward the back of the unit, where it connects to the main water line.

Just take your time feeding it through so the new line doesn’t get kinked or pinched along the way.

I was able to pull the old line out of the door/dispenser without taking the door off. I did remove the control panel to get better access to the dispenser end of the hose. What I’m having trouble with is the other end of the hose. The hose runs into the top of the fridge and disappears. It appears to run to the back of the fridge and I’m assuming it runs over to where the water filter is. How to I access the point at which the hose connects to the valve near the filter? (which parts inside the fridge do I need to take off and how do I do that?)

Well, that hose on top should just push out through the hole in the back. The other end of the hose should be attached to the hookup that connects it to the main water line.

is this the one you’re referring to ?

That’s the hose I’m referring to. However, it does not go out through the hole in the back. The hose in the back of the fridge is a different type of hose and it runs into the fridge up where the filter is (in the upper right side of the fridge if you’re looking inside from the front).

  1. Shut off the water supply to the refrigerator.
Before disconnecting the water line, turn the water supply off.

  2. Remove the shelves inside the refrigerator.
You should only need to remove the shelves. The lower crisper drawers can stay in place.

  3. Remove the fold-up shelf.
There are small caps on the hinges. Slide those caps upward and remove them, then take the shelf completely out.

  4. Remove the air filter cover.
Take the air filter cover off and remove the single screw located behind it.

  5. Pull the top of the rear panel forward.
Grab the top of the back panel and carefully pull it forward until it snaps loose. You only need to bend it forward enough to access the water line cover.

  6. Remove the water line/filter housing cover.
There are two screws holding this cover in place. Remove both screws, then pull the cover out.

  7. Disconnect the water line.
Place a towel underneath the connection because a small amount of water may come out. Remove the plastic locking clip or snap ring, push in on the fitting, and pull the water line out.

  8. Drain the old water line.
Put one end of the water line into a glass and gently blow through the other end to remove any water still trapped inside.

  9. Remove the upper hinge cover.
Go to the top outside of the refrigerator. Remove the hinge cover. There are five screws total, and two of those screws are underneath removable covers.

  10. Free the water line from the door.
Once the hinge cover is removed, you should be able to access the water line. Remove any plastic brackets holding the tubing in place.

  11. Remove the spring support.
Take the spring support off the old water line. You will reuse it on the new line.

  12. Pull the old water line out.
Pull the tubing out through the refrigerator until the entire old water line is removed.

  13. Install the spring onto the new water line.
Position the spring where the tubing bends going into the door. This helps keep the line from kinking or rubbing through.

  14. Feed the new water line through.
Start feeding the new line from inside the refrigerator. The channel runs horizontally, so you may need to bend the tubing slightly to get it started.

  15. Push the line completely through.
Once you get the tubing started in the channel, it should push through fairly easily until it reaches the top hinge area.

  16. Reconnect the water line.
Push the tubing fully into the fitting and reinstall the plastic locking clip or snap ring.

  17. Reinstall the brackets and covers.
Secure the tubing with the plastic brackets, reinstall the hinge cover, water line/filter housing cover, rear panel, air filter cover, and shelves.

  18. Turn the water back on and check for leaks.
Turn the refrigerator water supply back on and inspect both ends of the new water line carefully for leaks before finishing up.

Thank you! This looks like the instructions I needed. However, I’m no longer visiting my daughter (I’m in another state now) and will have to attempt this repair on my next visit.
