Finding out whether to change control panel & control board on a Kitchenaid d/washer KUDS30IXSS7

Please make sure to click on General above and select the correct appliance type first.

Brand: KITCHENAID
Model Number: KUDS30IXSS7
Main Symptom: Start a wash cycle then it stops or continue through the cycle but the lights go off on the control panel
What happens & when:
In addition to the main symptom listed above, i need to turn off/on the breaker to be able to use the control panel again.
Also I have to press the Lock button for the wash cycle to continue to end.
I get the green LED light showing cycle is complete 50 to 60% of the time

Error Code (if any): None
Parts or tests already tried: reset the breaker, change the power supply cable

There was actually a known issue with this model doing this due to the user interface/control panel WPW10500175. The new one will operate slightly differently, so I’ve attached a screenshot describing the changes.

Hi Rory,
I appreciate your quick response.
From reading your note, are you saying that by changing the User Interface control panel (shown in the URL you included), it resolves the glitch of the U/I panel unreliable operation which I described in my first description of the issue encountered?
Do you know how many years ago the U/I control panel was changed for this newer model?
My Kitchenaid d/w is about 10 years old, any way to find out maybe from the serial #?
I noticed that if I press any washing cycle, the led comes on for about 30 sec. then it turns off. However I can just press any wash cycle button and the led light will come on again for another 30 sec. That pattern is different than the 2 options you show in the screenshot of the changes when wanting to wake-up sleep mode.
Side question, how do I switch to/enter the service diagnostic mode?
Thanks a bunch for your feedback.

Replacing that UI should be the fix for this. The date code range that the pointer I took that screenshot from applies to would be serial numbers starting with F044 through F228, which is 2010 to 2012, but the issue is similar enough that even if it is outside of that range it will still be an issue with the UI.

I’ve attached the tech sheet for this model below, that should walk you through the diagnostic mode.

Hi Rory,
Thank you for sharing that pdf. Much appreciated.
I looked up the Serial # of my KitchenAid d/w, it is F22006517.
According to the Serial # range you provided, it appears that we are definitely within that range of serial # whose U/I control panel was subject to that faulty operation and therefor needs to be replaced. Is that the assessment you make as well?
Thank you

Yup, I think replacing that UI should take care of things for you.
