Wife discovered water in floor and a strange noise coming from dishwasher (sounds it was hung up). She flipped latch to open door and the sound continued and water continued to pump in from left side half way up. Bottom of dishwasher was full of water. What happened??? Is this repairable?

Could be that the water fill valve is stuck in the open position and needs replacing as the float switch should have shut it off once the unit overfilled.
But this does not explain the noise.
