Try setting the unit to timed dry.
Now does the timer advance?
On most units the timer motor gets power through the heating coil when the heating coil is shut off by a thermostat during an auto cycle.
During timed dry the timer motor gets power directly from the line.
So if you have no heat or advance in aut but have no heat and it does advance in timed dry, odds are high that the heating coil is burned out.
Unplug the unit and one side of the heating coil then measure it with a meter should be around 10 to 12 ohms.
Often you can see a broken coil.
