My dryer appears to be working, it spins, it heats but the clothes are not drying. My gut says it’s an airflow problem but I don’t know how to check it. I am a complete novice at appliance repair and have nothing on which to base what I think the problem is. My boyfriend thinks I’m nuts. Could you possibly outline for me the steps I should take to test the airflow? Thank you for your time and effort!
Start at the lint screen. If you’re not cleaning it with each load, start doing so. Next, check the vent hose or tube for kinks or other obstructions. The goal you’re looking for is the same strength of air flow at the outside of the house, as you have with the vent hose detatched from the dryer.
If your dryer vents through the roof of the house (mine does), it would be wise to have it professionally cleaned once a year. This assures not only that lint doesn’t build up in it; but also that animals don’t nest inside it.
Thanks Magician…The lint screen is clean, I clean it off every load. I looked down the vent the lint screen sits in and did not see any blockage. I also removed the vent hose from the back of the machine. Again, no visable blockage. However, I turned on the dryer before replacing the vent hose and it seems that the air coming out was very weak. So, I am led to believe there is a problem with the airflow intake, I just don’t know how to check it.
