Dishwasher turns on, initial drain cycle works, initial fill cycle works, then falls silent and does not kick into wash mode. The timer continues to function properly, with second drain and fill cycles kicking in. Continues all the way to finish but does not wash. Does anyone know what relay or module needs to be replaced on this appliance?

Try running the diagnostics.
Unplug the wash motor and check it for continuity witha meter.
If it has continuity plug it back in and check it with a meter to see if it gets voltage when it should be working.

I too have a PLDB998AC1 that won’t drain.
I did suck the tub dry using a wet-dry vac, so I know I’m not plugged up.
After clearing the water out I re-assembled the strainers and ran a rinse and hold, observed water filling the drain tube up and over the down-tube on the house drain, but at the end of the cycle I still had ~1 gallon of water in the tub.
I saw your reply to a previous post, and you said to “run the diagnostics”.
I also grabbed the data sheet.
How do you run the diagnostics?

See the second page of the tech sheet, they call it a water/service test.
I doubt it will tell you anything as you have run a drain test and it is not working OK.
Since you have checked the main pump for clogs and debris all that is left is the drain pump and the drain hose.
An outside possibility is also that the house drain is partially clogged.
Check the drain hose a common spot for it to clog is where it connects to the house plumbing.
If the main pump and the drain hose are OK then I would replace/check the drain pump.

In reading your reply I see that I left out the detail of how I sucked the water out of the tub via the drain tube, which for all intent and purpose eliminated a drain tube clog as the culprit. I thought about the house drain being clogged, but wouldn’t the down-tube over flow? It is about 16" tall rising out of the p-trap, and it is not filling up.

Yes it should.
Usually a dishwasher is hard connected to a fitting under the sink. It sounds like yours is connected the way a washing machine is, using a stand pipe.
This is not recommended for a dishwasher as a drain plug would flood your kitchen.
Just because you can suck the water out does not mean the main pump and filters are clean.
Good luck with it, odds are you will find the problem once you disassemble it.
