Dishwasher Shows No Signs of Life

The dishwasher shows NO SIGNS of life! No lights sounds or anything else :confused:

I have had the power supply (plug in) replaced (9 months ago) This did not fix the problem although there was some issue (melting?) with it. I’m back to trying to fix it again.

I have a Radioshack multimeter

and have tried to check the door switches. There are 2 FSP 8269209 switches and I THINK they are working. Unfortunately I’m not entirely sure how to read MY meter even though I have thoroughly read the sticky here on how to test continuity. Maybe my meter won’t work for this? It reads 1.0 to .4 (it fluctuates) then goes to 0 when I depress the ‘button’ on the switch.

Any help would be appreciated.

Set your meter as described on page 36 in the manual. Check for 120 VAC at the wall outlet for the dishwasher.

If the reading is correct, remove the dishwasher bottom panel and the terminal box cover (#12 on the diagram). Check for a broken or burned wires. Make sure the black and white wires from the power cord are connected to the black and white wires from the dishwasher accordingly.

If there is nothing wrong, open the control panel and check the thermal fuse (#4 on the diagram) for continuity (page 56 in your meter instructions). The leads to the thermal fuse should be removed prior the test.

Very likely the problem is a bad thermal fuse.

Thank you for your response…but how to check those things mentioned in the article would be necessary especially considering the equipment (radio shack multimeter) I have available. Currently I’m stuck on Number 3 and have already checked most of Number 4…that is if I’m reading this meter right.

I have removed the FSP switches and tested them and (not sure how detailed an explanation you need) When the button is not depressed on them I get a reading of 0 and when is it is they fluctuate between 0.9 and 0.4 then go to 0. If I’m understanding that means they are OK and have continuity.

I have checked the wires which run form them to the board. While the switches were out I removed the connectors on the board and checked them for continuity in the same manner. (except no button to push :slight_smile: )

The wall outlet has been checked for proper power and the plug in has been completely replaced. And is attached black to black and white to white.

Next I’d like to check that thermal fuse. I’ll get back to you and let you know how it goes.

Ok I have now removed the thermal fuse (thought I was going to break it getting the leads off) and think it is the culprit. When I touched the leads to both prongs my meter acts like I haven’t done anything so that means … I need a new fuse.

I’ll be ordering one soon and hopefully this war will be won!
