Brand: Kitchenaid Model Number:KDTE234GPS Main Symptom: No water fill What happens & when: No water out of fill valve on startup. Panel controls all seem to work. Replaced inlet valve and no change. Error code was faulting float switch. 6-4 I think. replaced float switch with two different new switches and no dice. Later metered the removed switches and on/off continuity ok. Confirmed the float travels up and down freely and operates the switch properly. Should I try the door switch next? Note: the dishwasher was previously dead only because of no drain. I found the drain hose clogged and replaced it.
Error Code (if any): 6-4
Parts or tests already tried: fill valve, float switch. Both removed parts tested ok.

Thanks for the info! So, if there is no power, I need a new board? Seems like they are hard to find. What part number would I be looking for? Very appreciated!
Last time I worked on this (it’s an hour away), my meter detected no power at the fill valve so I got desperate and replaced the control board $$$. It’s STILL dead! I guess I’m looking at wiring now? Are broken wires an issue on these things? Thanks SO much for the help. This is my 80 year old mother-in-laws machine and she misses it working.
Using the tech sheet for your model, confirm you have power into the board and then out to the wiring that goes down to the valve. Wiring and or loose connections can be an issue as well as a part.
Well, after replacing the fill valve, float switch, door latch, and the mother board out of desperation, it was still dead. It hadn’t run for months because of a clogged drain line under the floor. Then, the other day, I was laying on the floor once again looking at the guts of it and … it just started working by itself! I ended up replacing the drain line and all is good now after several loads of dishes. I’ll never know what fixed it because I wasn’t doing anything to it when it decided to wake up. Thanks for all the great help. Everything suggested made sense but this thing was just hibernating I guess. Cheers!
