How do I clean the drain area that looks yucky with lent and bits of plastic sitcky out of the grid? I can see no way to lift the grid out.
Thank you.

Fomom,
I take for granted you mean the “soil settler” on the inside of the tub.

Heres the proper procedure :

Removing the Soil Settler Assembly
1. Disconnect the dishwasher from the household electrical system and lay the unit on its back.
2. Remove the four (4) Hex-head screws securing the soil settler assembly to the tub.
3. Disconnect the two (2) hoses from the soil settler collector.
4. Remove the funnel and funnel grate, check valve ball and seal from the soil settler collector.

You may want to try this,
Remove the lower dishwasher rack,
Start the dishwasher, allow the unit to wash for 5 to 10 minutes and unlatch and open the door,
Using a sieve or strainer, draw it through the water in the bottom of the tub and collect as much debris as possible, (you may want to repeat this process a few times).
Disconnect the dishwasher drain hose from the disposal or plumbing, and drain the dishwasher into a bucket.

Thanks and Good Luck,

Although my “soil settler” looks nothing like the one pictured, we’ll see if we can’t tackle the straining first…then move on to removing the unit this weekend. Thank you so much for a quick response.

Fomom,

Does your “soil settler” grate look like this:

The procedure is still the same, just a different look and location.

It’s exactly like the one pictured. You’re a genious! Sorry for the delay in my appreciation…been out of state with medical issues. Thank you so much.

Fomom,

We’re glad we could help.

We hope things went well for you.

  :)
HI, I can’t figure out how to remove the rectangular soil settler plate shown. It really feels like it might break. I popped one tab, but it’s holding strong by something else. Machine is full of gunk. Trying to help a friend with no money to pay for broken parts, much less than a real repairman! Thanks muchly!

Veasey,

You access the "soil settler assembly and grate from underneath the tub. Refer back to the beginning of the post.
