Death (?) Of Old Faithful

It finally happened… our reliable and efficient 25 year old () Kenmore electric dryer died in the middle of a cycle the other day. Looks the same outside as it did when we first got it as a wedding present (:p). Nothing dramatic, just stopped working. When you open the loading door, there’s no light. Checked the fuses in the house, and nothing tripped, etc. I suspect the electronic board or the motor went South, but have no other ideas- any help our there? Thanks!

their is a termial fuse on your dryer.

Thanks for the scoop, okbobcats- Any idea where it is? (board, or down below?)

either on the back or front. if you have a front panel you can take off its in front if not. you have to take take the bake panel off. the fuse will be on the heating duck work. about 1.5" long

Hmmm… you may have something there when you say it may be near/on/in the heating duct work… Could be 25 years’ worth of crud, etc. may have triggered it (?). Will try to get to it in the next few days and let you know- thanks!

Ok, took the back panel off. Schematic only confirms there is a thermal fuse, and it’s non-resettable. Of course, the dryer is not here with me now- looks relatively gunk free when last seen. Where would the heating duct usually reside- right or left? Also, any special shape, color, etc.? Thanks!
