Control lights flashing on dishwasher

Hi Marianne,

Most likely the problem is a bad control panel. The chance for the control board to be bad is very small. You can try to perform the troubleshooting as described in the attached tech sheet but it’s better to order the new control panel and give it a try. You always can return it if it was ordered from APP. If you need the correct part number, post the color of the control panel.

Hi Gene,
Thanks for fast reply. If you feel most likely it is the control panel, I will order that part. My control panel is stainless. Is this straightforward to replace or I need to call a tech?

thanks Marianne

I have an Electrolux Dishwasher EIDW6105GB1 with a similar problem. All lights flash after initial fill (washer drains at this point without cycling) Have leveled machine, checked flow thru drain hose, etc. washer pump error light illuminates but motor pumps out the machine just fine. Is this a similar issue with a twitchy control board, or perhaps a faulty sensor or genuinely the motor? Machine is less than two years old and is run once or twice a week.It is not abused as it is just my wife and I. Thanks for your input.

[quote=Gene;753893]Hi Michael,

There are no any resets in such situation. If these lights are flashing then the new console most likely is the only solution. Try to follow the instructions posted by jgiza25 on 8/17/2008.

Hi Gene,
Well, the lights were not flashing. They were on solid (2 hr delay light - then on keypress, the child-lock light solid).
I took the console off, and tested with an ohmmeter. As you say, tech sheets from one model can’t always be used by another. Unfortunatly, the tech sheets for my model don’t have a full test procedures for the console/keypad. I was able to map out most everything, but there are some things about this console that are strange, because there are more lamps and switches than can be addressed by the interface lines.

After all the tests, I ended up connecting the panel back, and initially it looked like the same problem. It sat for a few days, then I came back to look at it some more, hit the ‘anti-bacterial wash’ button, and the unit cycled like it was in diagnostic mode. I cycled through all the steps, and after that the dishwasher was working normally!

After a few more weeks of normal operation, it locked up again. I suspect it’s because I use the ‘energy saver’ settings, and had someone open the washer before the cycle finished when it was still in the air dry mode.

I’m suspicious that the real issue is not a hard failure in the panel, but some combination of panel and control that puts the machine in some strange state when interrupted.

Have pulled the console again. And am letting things ‘sit’ again.
Any ideas?

Hi Marianne,

The stainless steel control panel AP6013430

This part is not too difficult to replace if you know how to handle a simple tools. The attached file will give you some ideas.

Hi Michael,

This situation does not look like a regular because the lights are steady instead of blinking.

I understand that you don’t like to invest such money in this machine (who would?:)) and are trying to find a least expensive solution. In my opinion there are: 85% chance for the control panel, 14% chance for the control board and 1% chance for both of them to be bad.

Keeping in mind that you can return any part ordered from APP within 365 days, you may want to order these parts and give then a try (console first).

There are 2 pumps in the dishwasher: drain pump and wash pump. Per your description looks like the wash pump does not work properly. Check if there is 120 VAC to the pump motor while the control calls for wash. If the reading is correct, replace the pump & motor assembly.

Hi Gene, thanks so much for replying, it gave me the confidence to tear into this project. I’ve removed the motor and when I apply 120 V to the proper leads it runs fine. What should I look at next?

Sounds like the problem is a bad control board (#4 at the diagram).

Gene,
The other thing I forgot to mention, is that the top of the dishwasher is also not cleaning as well as it used to (glasses cloudy with film etc) even though I use the Heavy Duty/Heated Dry setting. What should I check first? Thanks again.

Marianne

Marianne,

Sounds like your dishwasher has a lot of hard water deposits build up and it needs cleaning. You can use just a regular white vinegar. You also can use Affresh dishwasher cleaner.

Hi, Gene,

Can you please give me a link the techsheet of kitchenaid KUDK03CTSS0?
It’s normal light flashing. I have posted in a seperate post but you didn’t reply. I want to do a diagnosis to see whether I need a new keypad, control panel or control board.

Hi Tiewen,

Most likely the solution is to replace the console but there is a small chance for the control board to be bad as well.

Hi, Gene,

That’s for the techsheet. I have a question about the keypad test.
For the following chart, does it mean by this:
DELAY HOURS P1-12 P1-2
Does it P1 should be shorted to P12 and P2 as well when I pressing the delay hours key? Otherwise, it should be open?

Hi Tiewen,

You probably overlooked the first and most efficient part of the “Checking keypad operation” instructions on the second page. Perform it and you’ll see which part is bad.

Gene.

I didn’t the keypad function check. The control is fine.I tried to test the keypad connectivity with the chart with no luck.I think it does not apply to my model. However, after I did all this and started to place the order for a new keypad.I plugged the keypad ribbon back to the control board and clicked “start”,the dishwasher start running again. No flashing. Is this just a bad connection because of the repair didn’t plug the ribbon firmly?I hope the dishwash does not choke again. If it does, would it be the control or keypad?[quote=Gene;776760]Hi Tiewen,

Hopefully it will last but if not then 99% for the keypad.

Gene.

You were right. The fix didn’t last. Ordered parts and replaced the keypad yestersday. Problem fixed. Thanks for the help!

You are welcome. I’m glad you were able to fix it.

Hi Gene:

I know this is an old posting but I have the same problem with the Normal, light china and cancel light blinking. I have a Kitchenaide Model KUDS02FRSS1. Could you send me a tech sheet for that model so that I can perform some troubleshooting.

Thanks in advance for all your help
