My maytag dishwasher will not turn on. Before it stopped working completely, several times I could push the door in, or open and reclose the door and it would come on. Now it does nothing.
Also, occasionally water backs up from the sink drain garbage disposal into the dish washer. I have to run this water out before starting a new wash.

Sounds like it is either a latch problem or more likely one of the door switches is not closing. Open it up and take a look, you may be able to adjust the switch enough so it will close consistantly. Also could be the switch itself in no good.
Your siphoning problem is probably due to the drain hose install.
Often raising the drain pipe so that it is 6 inches higher than the drain input will solve this problem.
Sometimes an air gap has to be installed.
Could not find a decent Maytag install sheet so here is a Kitchenaide one that makes more sense.
