Burn Mark/Smoke Around Outside Front Vent

I started a load in our dishwasher before I left the house tonight. About an hour or so later, I came home to a clean load but a burnt smell in the house. I found out that the smell came from our Whirlpool Quiet Wash Plus 940 Series - Model No. DU940QWDZ3. The control panel no longer works. Pictures of the problem are located at Dishwasher What is the next step? Replace the unit (my thinking), control panel or what? Looking forward to the valued insight. Thank goodness that the house did not burn down.

First you have to open the door up so you can see what has actually burned up.

Looking at the amount of damage and the age of the unit you probably would be better off with a new unit.

Thanks Denman. Given the age of the dishwasher unit and that replacement parts will cost around $200 (estimate), I am going to instead buy a new unit. After all, the dishwasher had a long life and does not owe me a thing. : )
