Hello,

We currently have unstable temperatures in the fresh food section of our GE Profile fridge (model # PSC25MSTASS). I have just replaced all three temperature sensors, defrost heater, defrost thermostat, main board and inverter board. The fridge seems to be running “better” and sometimes the temps match the small fridge thermometers we placed in the fridge to test it. However, other times the temps are 10 to 20 degrees different than what the fridge display panel is showing. Any ideas on how to fix the big temperature swings? Should I check the fresh food evaporator to see if it has ice on it? Maybe possible the temperature display is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced? Thanks, Ken Br

Are the temperature fluctuations occurring after about 8 hours of the compressor running and how long are the higher temperatures holding for?

Thanks for the reply! After I installed the new main control board and inverter board then the compressor stopped running so much. Prior to that it ran almost constantly and the temps in the fresh food section hovered around 45 degree even when the temperature was set at 37 degrees. Now the compressor doesn’t run near as much but the temperature in the fresh food section rarely makes it below 40 degrees and mostly hovers around 45 to 49 degrees. The freezer section is cooling much better but temperatures do vary from -10 degrees to plus 20 degrees. Sometimes the temperatures in both the freezer and fresh food section match closely with the little thermostats we use to test the temperature and other times it off by over 10 degrees or more from what the display panel shows

Were the thermistors that were replaced the custom cool thermistor, the fresh food thermistor, and the freezer thermistor? Or was one of the evaporator thermistors replaced?

The thermostors replaced were the freezer evaporator, freezer (side wall), and fresh food (side wall) thermistor’s. I didn’t realize the Custom Cool section in the fresh food area had its own thermistor. Do you recommend I try replacing that one?

Based on everything that has already been replaced, either the custom cool thermistor has an issue or there is a DC voltage short somewhere else in the system. Since the custom cool section pulls the cold air from the freezer, the thermistor would be the most likely cause of failure. The thermistor in the following link should be fine to use as it is used for the refrigerator and the freezer thermistors. WR55X10025 Temperature Sensor | Genuine Ge OEM In Stock

Thanks! I’ll order the thermistor and install it in the custom cool section. I’ll let you know in a few days if that fixed the issue or not.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I happen to have an extra thermistor and am attempting to install it. Is the custom cool thermistor behind the fresh food evaporator or is it actually inside the custom cool section? Do I need to take the custom cool section apart to find it?

It is in the custom cool section and there will be some disassembly needed.

Thank you very much. I’ll let you know the results in about 24 hours

I actually decided to replace the thermistor behind the fresh food section evaporator first. That fixed the problem so no need to replace the custom cool thermistor in this case. The temps are now steady and match the display panel exactly. Thanks for your help and feel free to close this thread
