For the Samsung RF28HMEDBSR/AA, if you’re dealing with the right FlexZone rail (the middle drawer rail that carries the wiring), I would usually recommend the wiring harness only unless the rail itself is physically damaged.
This model is known for the wires breaking where they flex at the right rail. Common symptoms are:
FlexZone drawer display dead
Drawer temperature not changing
Freezer light or FlexZone functions acting up
Intermittent operation when the drawer is opened/closed
The right-side wire harness assembly (DA96-00640A) is a common repair for these symptoms and is designed to replace the failed wiring without replacing the entire rail. Repair reports for this part specifically mention removing the right drawer rail and replacing the harness rather than replacing the rail assembly.
Before spending the extra money on the complete rail assembly, check:
Is the metal rail bent or damaged?
Is the plastic carrier broken?
Are the wires visibly frayed or broken near the hinge point?
If the rail slides smoothly and only the wires are bad, I’d buy the harness. If the rail is damaged or the harness is permanently integrated into the rail version you’re looking at, then the complete rail assembly ( DA97-13780B Refrigerator Bottom Shelf Rail Assembly | Genuine Samsung OEM In Stock ) makes sense.
What symptoms are you seeing? Dead FlexZone display, no cooling control in the drawer, broken wires visible, or something else? That will help determine whether the harness alone is the right fix.
Hey Jeff, thanks for getting back to me. I’m actually not experiencing any problems. What temperature or wire is broken etc. Couple years ago I did replace the wire harness because the installation over the wires was cracked and it used to jam up when we were trying to shut the door. I actually made a little weight out of a piece of plastic and I positioned it on the wiring inside the rail. The wire actually drops down and doesn’t pop out of the rail when you close the door, but I was in Lowe’s and I saw a flex draw and pulled it out and I could see there’s a little weight that they have now added to that wiring harness. I believe it’s called a drum weight and it looks like something that you would put on a sprayer hose when you have a sink but very small. I was looking for that weight only. I mean what I did does work, but I’d like to get that little bullet weight or gravity bowl, weight, whatever they want to call that. Thanks!
