Agitator wont turn sounds like it strpped

when i wash clothes everything works well, but when it comes to the washing cycle the agitator just sits there and there is a loud noise, like the part undernreath the agitator is moving but the agitator is not, like it is stripped.

any suggestions ???

Here is a link on replacing the agitator dogs. I am assuming that your model was made by Whirlpool… How to Replace Washer Dogs on a Whirlpool Washer | eHow.com Tom Appliance Educator, Appliance Parts, Washer and Dryer Parts, Refridgerator and Freezer Parts, Stove and Oven Parts

My washer is a Kenmore 110.20972991. The top piece of the agitator looks completely solid, no pry-off cap apparent. I pull up in it, and I am
not strong enough to pull it out by brute force. Any advice?

There is a cap that you must pry off. Then use a 1/2 inch socket drive extension to push down and rotate the spring retainer counterclockwise a bit to release and then remove the upper agitator. Then remove the agitator bolt to remove the lower agitator.
