Brand:Whirlpool
Model Number:WZF34X18DW08
Main Symptom:It has stopped working for no apparent reason, twice.
What happens & when:One morning I discovered food melting in the freezer. The freezer was plugged in with interior light working, but not running & inside temp well above freezing. After removing food, etc. it started running & cooling a couple hours later. Ran perfectly for 6 weeks, then suddenly did the same thing. Inside temp was 28 & not running, but inside light was working. Before I had a chance to pull it out, it started working again and continues to cool. The freezer is an upright in an attached garage, sitting against an inside wall on cement floor. Since it did this 6 weeks ago I’ve put a thermometer inside & check it daily; it always around zero, give or rake a few degrees, until yesterday when it stopped again. No ice or frost buildup or obvious symptoms.

Since the freezer is only about 2 years old and is located in a garage, have you cleaned the condenser coils recently? The condenser fan can draw in a lot of dust, dirt, lint, and even grass clippings from the garage, which can build up on the condenser coils underneath the unit. When the coils become clogged, the freezer has a much harder time getting rid of heat, which can lead to poor cooling performance and longer run times.

If you haven’t cleaned the coils recently, I would start there. A vacuum and a soft brush work well for removing the buildup. Once they’re clean, give the freezer 24 hours to see if the cooling performance improves.
