I have a 12 year old Amana SGD22TW side by side refrigerator. 4 days ago the freezer compartment temp raised ton the point that the ice in the icemaker melted and the water dripped all over the food and covered it in ice. I removed the food, ice and eventually the cover in the rear of the compartment, and found the coils covered in ice and the fan not turning.
This same thing happened almost a year ago, and a repair tech replaceded the defrost thermister which sits on top of the coils, and the unit ran fine until earlier this week.
The same repair tech came out 3 days ago and replaced the thermister again. The fan was balky, but he did get it running. An hour after he left, the fan stopped running.
Yesterday he replaced the fan. The fan ran, everything seemed fine. The freezer produced one cycle of ice from the ice-maker.
This morning the ice had melted, the coils were covered in frost, and the compressor wasn't running.
I turned the stem on the defrost control box, heard a click, the compressor started, but the fan still doesn't energize.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help.
